Our First Model Rehearsals

There is a reason people say that “practice makes perfect.” With Gainesville Fashion Week just around the corner (mark your calenders for April 11th-15th), it’s imperative that our models nail down the perfect walk and pose. Last night was the first of four model rehearsals and it took place at Sharab Lounge in downtown Gainesville.

It just warmed our hearts to see some of our models come to the rehearsal wearing their Gainesville Fashion Week shirts, but things really heated up when they started walking. Not to show off too much too soon, but we have fierce album on Facebook full of photos from the event. Take a peek, we’ll be you’ve never seen so many chiseled jawlines and sky-high heels strutting down a catwalk.

Bottom line: this is just the beginning of rehearsals, but we’re so happy and impressed with all our stunning models. That being said, there are three more official practices left, so the pressure is on. Practice makes perfect, but attitude makes a catwalk!

GFW Parters With Community

Photo: INsite Magazine

Embarking on its fifth season Gainesville Fashion Week 2012 is definitely in full swing right as our models are selected and we are now heading full speed ahead. We will be holding promotional events and co-sponsored events up until the week of the show to get people in the mood for what GFW stands for the most music, art and fashion.

Nationally acclaimed by family lifestyle magazine, Southern Living, as being one of the best fashion events in the South, GFW strives to continue making a name for itself amongst fashion junkies around the world. Most recently, we came into a partnership with Fashion Politics, a London-based media/news/publishing company that specializes in providing a space for creation and inspiration for fashion lovers around the world.

Many companies have already signed on to be part of the 2012 team. In our previous seasons we have had coverage from large communication medium sponsors such as HOME Magazine, The Gainesville Sun, Gainesville.com, Gainesville Today, INsite Magazine, Our Town Magazine, WCJBTV20, The Gainesville CW10, The Gainesville Television Network and several local news sources and blogs, like Her Campus.

Not only does Gainesville Fashion Week build lasting relationships with local organizations and businesses, we also work to benefit Rocket for the Arts, which is a non-profit program developed to enhance the lives of children by exposing them to quality art programs within the Gainesville area.

Past GFW sponsors have included Sephora, Monster Energy Drinks, Banana Republic, University House Apartments, Grooveshark, ZuZu Restaurant,Jolie Events, Neutral7 Design Group and Dragonfly Sushi & Sake Co.

This is the most exciting time of year for everyone on the GFW team as we are making new partnerships and keeping old ones strong. Now more than ever, we are excited to see everyone who is getting involved in this year’s shows and could not be more anxious for April’s arrival.

GFW 2012 Official Photoshoot

Congratulations to all of the models who were selected to be part of Gainesville Fashion Week 2012! This past weekend, we rallied the troops together for our 2012 Model Photoshoot, featuring all of the fantastic models who made the final cut in our casting call.

The fashion mob took over the University House 13th Street Apartments for a Sunday Funday filled with staggering heels, hot models and even hotter poses. Did I mention the models were really hot?

Thank you to Domino’s Pizza for keeping our bellies full all day, and to Avant Garde salon for providing on-the-spot hair touch ups and keeping the models looking sassy. DJ Klarc Sheppard was in the house getting everyone loose, spinning beats and pumping the jams. Finally, big thanks to University House 13th Street Apartments for letting us use the club room and pool area for the day!

GFW Does ACEL Kickball Tournament

This past Saturday marked the annual ACEL Champions for Charity Kickball Tournament. It was a beautiful day at the Diamond Sports Park in Gainesville, Florida as about 25 locally sponsored teams geared up for a day full of fun, sun and kickball.

The Gainesville Fashion Week crew was there for Neutral7 Signs & Graphics, our sister-ship and sponsor of the event, informing participants about and guests about the quickly-approaching fashion week events. One of our models even made an appearance to show support! The GFW table was quite the hit amongst the young ones and adults as we scattered it was bubble gum, red and white cheerleading pom poms and colorful pins.

Amongst the multitude of kickball games and beautiful weather participants and guest enjoyed music, free pizza and pulled pork sandwiches and even door prizes!

At the end of the day, Student Affairs and Nationwide Insurance came out on top and won first and second place in the tournament.

Gainesville Fashion Week loves getting involved in the community and the ACEL Kickball Tournament was a great way to bring our team and community together!
